2015 BOS Scholarship winners
Noah Pruner graduated from Thousand Islands Secondary School this past spring with a Red Seal from the Ontario Specialist High Skills Major in Arts and Culture. He has been involved in the past two BOS shows, playing Tweedledee and the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland and Harry the Horse in Guys and Dolls. He has been involved in other local shows, both behind the scenes and onstage, and completed a dual credit program in Musical Theatre with St. Lawrence College. Noah has been accepted into the Digital Film and Theatre Program at the Art Institute of Vancouver, and plans on being involved in community theatre wherever he goes.
Hello, my name is Elizabeth Horton and I have been involved in the Brockville Operatic Society for the past three years being a cast member of “Music Man”, “Alice in Wonderland” and “Guys and Dolls”. Being involved in the BOS for the past three years has forever changed me for the better. I have learned and discovered multiple forms of theatre, new ways to look at theatre, how to become a better performer and have grown and changed as a person. Throughout my time with the BOS I have gained many new friendships that will last forever, these people have not only changed the way I look at theatre but they have changed who I am. The people I have meet have become friends but they are also idols whom I strive to be like as I grow up. The Brockville Operatic Society has truly prepared me for my endeavours next year and for the rest of my life. In September I plan on continuing my education in the Musical Theatre program at St.Lawrence College. I am very thrilled to be continuing my education in musical theatre because I want it to be more than passion, I want it to be my life.
I would like to thank all the members of the Board for giving me this generous award. I would also like to thank all those who are members of the Brockville Operatic Society, you have all taught me multiple life and theatre lessons and I will forever cherish the memories we share. I truly thank you for continuing to keep musical theatre alive in the city of Brockville and to put your heart into every show.

New Horizons – The Youth Leading the Way
It all started with being a pumpkin fairy and in the children’s chorus of Cinderella at the age of 10. I loved my costume and loved being on stage from my first rehearsal. My experience in this show convinced me to audition for other shows and I have been in the chorus of Carousel and Music Man. Alice in Wonderland was my first opportunity to have a real role with lines, solos and dancing (on a table, no less!).
Being part of these shows has opened my eyes to other places to do what I love. I have gotten involved with the Theatre Guild, the Brockville Community Youth and Adult Choir, and the Merrickville Theatre Night. The supportive atmosphere has allowed me to blossom as an actress and singer. My favorite part of the Operatic Society is the family that each show brings, and know that no matter where I go I can find friendly faces and lots of fun in community theatre. I look forward to being involved in future productions with the Brockville Operatic Society and am hoping for a future in classical music.
Gillian Rose Rayner
The BOS would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of Gillian Rayner who passed away peacefully on July 13, 2015 at the age of 79. Gillian was an active participant in BOS shows, beginning as Nancy in Oliver in 1975. Her other roles in included: Elsa Schraeder in The Sound of Music (1976, Sharon McLonergan in Finians Rainbow (1977), Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls (1979), and Mrs. Bedwin Oliver (2003). We are sure that’s she’s singing and dancing with angels now.
