Message from the President
Dear Members and friends:
As always we are amazed how fast time flies!
We are well into this “Theatre Season” and have also been working on plans for 2017. We would like to take this opportunity to provide you a quick review and update of events and plans.
Looking back at our first production of our 2016 season, this past February, we are happy to report a very successful production of the music of “Andrew Lloyd Webber in Concert”. Our talented members delivered two stellar performances of a very memorable concert February 13th on the BAC stage before a total audience of a thousand very happy people. The shows were visually stunning and our performers delivered stellar and memorable vocal performances that are still being talked about in the community. The feedback from audience members has been very positive with many folks remarking that it was one of the best productions they’d seen on the BAC stage in years. So -folks- you should all be very proud of being part of a special performance that will be remembered for a long time! The Board is particularly gratified that the move to try a new format and deliver a new product proved to be so successful. This now broadens the options the BOS has to provide new artistic opportunities and formats not only for our audiences, but for our participating members and we could not be more pleased that this new route has mapped out so well. It bodes well for the future.
We are now in the second segment of our season with preparations for the major stage production of South Pacific well underway! The cast of thirty three, along with the production team, is working hard to make this amazing show a great experience for our audiences. Please note the performances will be on the BAC stage June 17, 18, 19. Dates are coming fast – Get your tickets soon!
Building on Success!
We are pleased to announce plans for our February 2017 production. The BOS is returning to the “Concert Format” that we’ve had so much recent success with, as we will be staging (on the BAC stage) another concert series in February 2017. This production will focus on the magical songs of many successful classics that will have people “wishing upon a star” and dreaming of a “whole new world” and not just the “bare necessities” or a “spoonful of sugar” but in fact a “whale of a tale” while they contemplate “the circle of life”. So we invite the community to “be our guest” and come look what’s in store “just around the river bend”! Stay tuned for more details to come!
Shhh! ONLINE SILENT AUCTION
Want to bid on some fantastic items from the comfort of your own computer? Now you can. The Brockville Operatic Society is having a silent auction on Facebook from Friday, June 3rd until Sunday, June 5th. That’s right, on Facebook. You don’t even need to wear pants! Check out the BOS Facebook page in the coming days for auction details and a gallery of items to bid on. When the auction opens on June 3rd, simply place your bid in the Comments section. Happy pantsless bidding!
Finally, at the end of this summer the AGM will be taking place in September 2016 where we will review the year in full and discuss further plans for 2017, as well as set in place the new Board for the following season. Please note we will have outgoing members of the Board and will renew the cycle by bringing on new Board members. This cycling keeps things fresh with new ideas and new hands on board. The Nominating committee will be working soon to engage the nomination of new prospective Board members. If you would be interested in joining the Board or know someone who would – WE WANT YOU! Please contact us at your earliest convenience.
Best Regards on behalf of the Board
